The controversy erupted when the Department of Justice released the latest batch of Epstein documents last Friday, revealing Attia's extensive correspondence with the convicted sex trafficker. The wellness influencer and podcast host, who boasts millions of online followers, referred to Epstein as his "friend" in hundreds of emails exchanged after Epstein's initial 2008 conviction for procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute.
Among the published communications were emails containing crude and overtly sexual content, though none appear to reference criminal activities directly. One particularly notable message from Attia to Epstein read: "[Female genitalia] is, indeed, low carb. Still awaiting results on gluten, though."

The source speaking to The Wrap described the situation as "Weiss against everyone right now," suggesting that Paramount CEO David Ellison may need to intervene personally to resolve the dispute over Attia's future with CBS News. This internal conflict emerges just one week after Weiss announced the hiring of nineteen prominent media personalities as contributors, part of her strategy to increase the network's relevance in competitive media landscapes.

Attia's Public Apology and Explanation
Over the weekend, Attia issued a lengthy apology to his staff and customers, subsequently sharing the statement publicly on social media platform X on Monday morning. In his carefully worded response, the wellness expert asserted: "To be clear: 1. I was not involved in any criminal activity. 2. My interactions with Epstein had nothing to do with his sexual abuse or exploitation of anyone."
He further emphasized: "I was never on his plane, never on his island, and never present at any sex parties." Attia expressed regret for "putting myself in a position where emails, some of them embarrassing, tasteless, and indefensible, are now public" and accepted responsibility for the resulting humiliation.

One particularly damaging email from 2015 demonstrates that Attia understood the potential reputational risk of his association with Epstein, even as he maintained their friendship. He wrote to the convicted sex offender: "You [know] the biggest problem with becoming friends with you? The life you lead is so outrageous, and yet I can't tell a soul."
In his public apology, Attia insisted this comment did not reflect awareness of Epstein's criminal activities, despite the billionaire's conviction seven years earlier. He explained: "What I was referring to, poorly and flippantly, was the discretion commanded by those social and professional circles–the idea that you don't talk about who you meet, the dinners you attend and the power and influence of the people in those settings."
Further Epstein Connections Revealed
Additional email exchanges indicate that while Attia may never have visited Epstein's notorious private island, Little Saint James, he expressed interest in doing so. In April 2016 correspondence comparing Epstein's island with Grand Cayman, Attia responded to Epstein's description by stating: "I need to visit some time."
The wellness influencer also communicated regularly with Epstein's staff and associates, including assistant Lesley Groff. In one message, Attia complained he would "go into JE withdrawal" if he didn't see his convicted friend soon, writing: "See you next time, hopefully JE in town when I'm back in 2 weeks. I go into JE withdrawal when I don't see him."
Claims of Deception and Naivety
Attia's apology statement claims that Epstein deliberately misled him about the nature of his 2008 conviction, characterizing the charges as prostitution-related rather than involving minors. The wellness expert acknowledged his own naivety in believing Epstein's version of events, stating: "I was incredibly naïve to believe him. I mistook his social acceptance in the eyes of the credible people I saw him with for acceptability, and that was a serious error in my judgment."
He further explained that "the presence and credibility of such venerable people" around Epstein created an illusion of trustworthiness that "clouded [his] judgement." Attia maintains he only learned the full truth about Epstein's crimes when reading a 2018 Miami Herald investigation that "repulsed" and "nauseated" him.
