Casualty Fans Outraged Over Stevie and Matty Kiss

BBC's Casualty has left fans reeling after the latest episode of the new boxset Lethal Legacy featured an unexpected romantic twist that many are calling the 'worst storyline'.

Emotions Boil Over

On Saturday night (April 25), the BBC soap aired the first instalment of its new boxset, just a week after the heartbreaking death and funeral of Kim Chang (played by Jasmine Bayes). The episode focused on Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius) as they struggled with grief and guilt over their colleague's death.

Tensions quickly escalated between the pair. When Matty offered support, Stevie snapped: "About what? What wisdom could you possibly offer me Matty? You are a barely competent junior who couldn't be left alone with a patient for five minutes."

Matty responded: "I know you're hurting, I'm hurting too. Except I'm not taking it out on everybody else. Or is that what you're trying to do, you're trying to push everybody away cause you don't wanna know the truth?"

Stevie bit back, telling him not to psychoanalyse her, as she was tired of people saying Kim's death wasn't her fault. Matty retorted: "Yeah, well, it is ok?" As she shoved him away, Stevie yelled that she knew it was her fault.

The Controversial Kiss

As tensions rose, Matty shoved her against an ambulance, and the pair shared a steamy kiss—much to the dismay of viewers. Social media quickly erupted with criticism.

One fan wrote: "Can the writers stop doing this to Stevie! Sorry, but not feeling it, plus this is going to completely screw up Dylan big time, especially as he opens up to Stevie."

Another commented: "Honestly, the worst storyline they could've run with." Someone else shared: "I'm sorry, but I don't see this ending very well!"

One viewer reeled: "This was just awful. Why…. WHY?!" As another added: "NO STEVIE ANYONE BUT HIM."

Mixed Reactions

Despite the backlash, some fans were intrigued by the twist. One said: "I mean I don't want to like it, but I kinda do." Another wrote: "I knew that Stevie & Matty were going to kiss at the end, which I thought I'd hate, but their conversation and the way it played out, I could be on board if this turns into a relationship!"

With Matty being the estranged son of Stevie's close friend Dylan Keogh (William Beck), the new connection is sure to cause further drama.

Casualty is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
