The BBC director general, Tim Davie, and head of news, Deborah Turness, have resigned following accusations of bias in the broadcaster's coverage of US President Donald Trump and transgender issues. The resignations, which took place on Sunday night, come amid a growing crisis over the corporation's commitment to impartiality.
The BBC board chair, Samir Shah, is expected to issue an apology on Monday regarding the editing of a Trump speech in an episode of the programme Panorama. This incident is among several highlighted by Michael Prescott, a former external adviser to the BBC's editorial standards committee, who detailed his concerns in a memo published by the Telegraph.
The departures mark a significant shake-up at the top of the BBC, as the organisation faces intense scrutiny over its editorial decisions. The broadcaster has not yet announced interim replacements for Davie and Turness.
