World Cup 2026: England Fans Hit by Sevenfold Rail Fare Hike

England fans travelling to the 2026 World Cup in the United States face a sevenfold increase in rail fares for a journey to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. NJ Transit is planning to charge $100 (£73.69) for a return ticket from New York's Pennsylvania station to the venue, compared to the usual $12.90 (£9.51). The 82,500-capacity stadium will host eight matches, including the final on 19 July and England's final group game against Panama.

The price hike is part of new special event pricing for the tournament, with a final decision expected in the coming days. A spokesperson for NJ Transit said: 'The ticket prices for match day travel have not been finalised and any reference to cost would be unconfirmed speculation.' They added that regular commuters would not bear the cost of the eight matches.

Parking at MetLife Stadium is also expected to be significantly reduced compared to regular NFL games, affecting tens of thousands of fans. New Jersey is not alone in raising prices; Boston has confirmed an $80 (£58.97) return fare to Foxboro's Gillette Stadium, four times the usual $20 (£14.74). England will play Ghana there in their second group match, with their opener against Croatia in Dallas, Texas.
