Tiger Woods Arrested on DUI Charges Following Dramatic Florida Car Crash

A newly released photograph captures golf icon Tiger Woods standing beside the wreckage of his overturned vehicle, moments after a serious two-vehicle collision near his Jupiter, Florida residence. The incident led to his arrest on Friday afternoon on misdemeanour charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and refusal to submit to a urine test.

Details of the Rollover Collision

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Eastern Time as Woods was driving his Range Rover northbound on a two-lane road. According to local sheriff John Budensiek, a pickup truck towing a pressure cleaner trailer was attempting to slow down and turn into a driveway. Budensiek stated that Woods was travelling at "high speeds", which prevented the pickup truck driver from fully exiting the roadway.

In a late manoeuvre to overtake, the 15-time major champion struck the trailer, causing his vehicle to flip onto its side. "He didn't roll completely over. The truck rolled to the driver's door and then just slid northbound up the road," Budensiek observed during an impromptu press conference.

Arrest and Impairment Investigation

Following the collision, Woods reportedly managed to exit through the passenger door of his Range Rover. The scene photograph shows the 50-year-old golfer talking on his mobile phone while standing on a grass patch adjacent to his overturned vehicle and an untouched fire hydrant.

When emergency services arrived, DUI investigators quickly noted that Woods appeared impaired. "Our DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment," Budensiek disclosed. "They did several tests on him. Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account. But they did do some in-depth roadside tests."

Based on these assessments, Woods was placed under arrest and transported to Martin County Jail for processing.

Medication Suspected Over Alcohol

Authorities indicated that Woods' impaired condition likely resulted from medication rather than alcohol consumption. "At the Martin County Jail, and even on scene, we really weren't suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case," Budensiek explained. "And that proved to be true at the jail. So Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zeros."

However, when requested to provide a urinalysis test, Woods refused, leading to the additional charge of refusal to submit to a lawful test. He faces charges of DUI with property damage alongside the refusal charge.

Speed and Crash Aftermath

While Budensiek could not specify the exact speed at which Woods was travelling, he suggested it was significantly above the 30 mph speed limit for the area. "It's a 30-mile-an-hour speed limit. And when I show you the photos, they kind of speak for themselves," he remarked. "You can see where he clipped the back of the trailer. You can see where he rolled. And then as he decelerates, sliding down on the driver's door of the vehicle, you can see that he slid for a pretty decent space before he came to a stop."

The crash site exhibited visible skid marks near the overturned vehicle, underscoring the severity of the incident. No other serious injuries were reported from the two-vehicle collision.
