Donald Trump has asserted that Keir Starmer will step down as Prime Minister in his most recent social media outburst, claiming the PM has 'failed badly' on immigration and energy. The US President posted on Truth Social: 'Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL! ). I wish him well!'
Speculation Over Starmer's Future Intensifies
The prediction comes amid growing speculation about Starmer's potential resignation, which intensified after challenger Andy Burnham secured the Makerfield parliamentary seat earlier this week. Burnham is scheduled to return to Westminster on Monday (June 22) for his swearing-in ceremony as Makerfield's new MP. Sources suggest his team expects Starmer to outline his intentions within days, though they would accept a timeline keeping him at No 10 until September.
Cabinet Minister Responds
Business Secretary Peter Kyle informed journalists on Sunday that his last conversation with the Prime Minister occurred on Friday, describing it as a 'frank conversation'. When questioned over reports that Starmer is contemplating announcing his resignation as early as this coming week, he told Sky News' Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips: 'I have nothing to believe that they are true. I'm seeing a lot of speculation out there. The only thing I can say with fact is that the Prime Minister is hard at work, as he is every day. He is one of the most hardworking people I've ever come across, and today, as in every other day I've ever known Keir, he is out there working hard. At the same time he is also trying to create the space where he can think and reflect on the political realities and challenges, and the opportunities, that lie before us.'
Starmer's Father's Day Message
Meanwhile, Starmer spent his Sunday at Chequers, taking to social media to mark Father's Day with a heartfelt message. He wrote on X: 'Being a dad is my greatest joy. Today, I'm thinking about my dad, and the father I am to my children because of him. Happy Father's Day.' Despite the speculation, no official confirmation has emerged regarding Starmer stepping down.
