Bergvall seeks exit after limited playing time
Lucas Bergvall has informed Tottenham Hotspur of his intention to leave the club this summer, according to The Athletic. The 20-year-old Swedish midfielder joined Spurs from Djurgarden in 2024 for £8.5 million but struggled for consistent minutes under manager Roberto De Zerbi, often appearing as a second-half substitute in the latter part of the 2025/26 season.
Bergvall is currently representing Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. He previously attracted interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa, but Tottenham refused to sell at that time. It remains unclear whether either club still wants to sign him.
Contract and valuation complicate move
Bergvall is under contract until 2031, and his market value is estimated at around £52 million. However, given his desire to leave, potential buyers may negotiate a lower fee. The Athletic notes that the inflated midfield market this summer could make any transfer complicated.
Spurs target Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes
Tottenham are actively seeking midfield reinforcements after a disappointing campaign that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League, avoiding relegation only with a final-day 1-0 win over Everton. De Zerbi is reportedly pushing for squad upgrades.
The Athletic reports that Spurs are willing to break their wage structure to sign Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali, who impressed despite the Magpies' struggles. However, Newcastle values the Italian at around £100 million and is determined to keep him.
Another target is West Ham's Mateus Fernandes. The Hammers were relegated this season and may need to reduce their wage bill. Spurs have approached their London rivals, but West Ham still values the 21-year-old at approximately £80 million.
