The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have just one “currency” left after Prince Harry's latest court defeat, according to journalist Camilla Tominey. Writing in The Telegraph, Tominey argued that the couple now rely on drama to remain relevant and generate income.
Court Loss and £50m Legal Bill
On Tuesday, a day after Harry returned to the UK for his latest trip, it was revealed that he had lost his court case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of The Daily Mail. Harry, alongside other claimants, had accused the publisher of unlawful information gathering to write stories. The publisher rejected the claims, and the court found them untrue. This leaves Harry with a potential £50m legal bill.
Drama as the Only Currency
Tominey wrote: “The Sussexes thrive on drama. It’s the only real currency they have left, which goes some way to explaining Harry’s endless will-he-won’t-he Buckingham Palace invitation saga.” She suggested that behind-the-scenes footage might already be shot for a future television project.
Tominey also noted that Harry and Meghan have monetized their grievances through Netflix deals and Harry’s memoir Spare, funding their lavish Montecito lifestyle. She added: “Strip away the grievance, the victimhood and the drama, and what remains? A couple of former royals with a fading brand.”
Royal Visit to Highgrove
The comments came just hours before it was revealed that King Charles and Queen Camilla had hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their two children at Highgrove House on Friday.
