UK Pledges £25m for Jewish Security After Attack

The UK government has announced an additional £25 million to bolster security for Jewish communities following a suspected terror attack in Golders Green, north London, on Wednesday. The funding is aimed at increasing police patrols and protective measures around synagogues, schools, and community centres.

Fast-Tracked Legislation

In response to the attack, the government stated that legislation to target individuals and organisations acting on behalf of state-sponsored groups will be fast-tracked in the coming weeks. This move aims to strengthen legal tools against those who support or engage in hostile activities.

Heightened Police Presence

Police forces across the country have intensified patrols following the incident, which saw two Jewish men stabbed in Golders Green. The victims have been identified locally as 34-year-old Shilome Rand and 76-year-old Moshe Ben Baila, also known as Moshe Shine. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 45-year-old man, described by police as a Somali-born British national, was arrested in connection with the stabbings. The attack is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Jewish sites in recent weeks, sparking urgent calls for action and criticism that the government has not done enough to combat rising antisemitism.

The government’s announcement comes amid mounting pressure to address community safety concerns, with Jewish leaders demanding more robust measures to prevent further violence.
