Trump Says Starmer's Political Survival Hinges on Immigration and Energy Policy
Trump: Starmer's Survival Hinges on Immigration, Energy

US President Donald Trump on Friday stated that it would be 'tough' for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to survive politically unless he tackles immigration and energy policy. Trump targeted Starmer's strategies on energy and migration, arguing that the Prime Minister's ban on North Sea drilling has fueled calls for his resignation.

When asked if Starmer could outlive the turmoil, the US leader remarked: 'It's a tough thing, unless he can straighten out immigration – where he's weak – and if he doesn't start drilling and stop with the windmills all over the place... he's got to open up the North Sea.'

Trump has repeatedly criticized the UK since the beginning of the war in Iran for the Prime Minister's refusal to get involved. Starmer initially banned the US from using the Diego Garcia military base for strikes against Tehran, but later reversed his decision.

Trump made the comments aboard Air Force One while returning from a trip to Beijing, where he had been fostering ties with China's leader, Xi Jinping. The US leader boasted that 'fantastic trade deals' were made. Angling to find common ground on trade, tariffs, Tehran, and Taiwan, Trump is leaving with little to announce on the latter fronts.

Taiwan was not mentioned by the President throughout the entirety of the trip, and how China could help with the Iran war is yet to be seen. Still, his several meetings and tours with the Chinese President provided Trump with ample opportunity to level with Xi.
