Donald Trump has said it will be a 'tough thing' for Sir Keir Starmer to survive as Prime Minister unless he changes his policies on energy and immigration. The US president made the comments aboard Air Force One as he returned from a two-day visit to China.
Mr Trump criticised Sir Keir's approach to North Sea oil extraction, accusing him of failing to exploit a 'gold mine'. He said the UK buys oil from Norway, which extracts it from the North Sea, while the UK has 'one of the greatest oil finds anywhere in the world' that is not being used.
The president also attacked UK immigration policies, branding them 'insane' and claiming Britain was being 'invaded'. He said Sir Keir must 'straighten out immigration' and 'stop with the windmills all over the place', which he described as the 'most expensive form of energy' that kill birds and ruin landscapes.
Despite the criticism, Mr Trump stopped short of calling for Sir Keir to resign, saying he thought 'he's a nice man'. However, he referenced a disagreement over a planned UK-led defensive mission in the Strait of Hormuz, which the White House has criticised.
