Third Palestinian Teen Killed in West Bank This Week Amid Violence Surge
Third Teen Killed in West Bank This Week

Palestinians are mourning the death of a third teenager in the occupied West Bank this week, as a surge of violence continues to grip the region. The latest victim, 15-year-old Youssef Shtayyeh, was shot dead by Israeli forces during a raid in the city of Nablus, according to health officials.

On Friday, residents of the northern West Bank village of Tell gathered to mourn Shtayyeh, carrying his shrouded body through the streets while waving Palestinian flags and reciting religious verses. The procession reflected a community united in grief and anger.

Israeli Military Response

Israel's military acknowledged the killing, stating that its forces had fired after attempting to arrest a Palestinian who they claimed had thrown rocks at them. The military did not specify the reason for the operation in Nablus, the West Bank's second-largest city, which is under the administrative control of the Palestinian Authority.

Rising Toll

Shtayyeh is at least the fourth Palestinian killed by Israeli settlers or soldiers this week, following shootings in Hebron, al-Mughayyir, and Deir Dibwan. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that at least 40 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the year, including a record 11 by settlers—two more than in all of 2025.

Palestinian officials, rights groups, and international observers have increasingly warned about the worsening violence. Young Palestinian men are being killed with growing regularity amid a broader climate of arson, vandalism, and displacement of farming communities near settlements and outposts in the occupied West Bank.

Condemnation and Calls for Accountability

Ramallah Mayor Leila Ghannam, speaking at one of this week's funerals, condemned the violence, asserting that Israeli settlers and the army are effectively one and the same. She suggested that the onslaught of violence reflects broader impunity in the Palestinian territory.

The international community has expressed concern over the escalating situation, urging restraint and accountability. However, the cycle of violence shows no signs of abating, with each new death deepening the trauma and anger among Palestinians.
