In a dramatic incident in Coventry, a shopkeeper's rapid response led to the capture of an armed robber who attempted to steal from his premises. The event unfolded at a shop located in Riley Square, Coventry, on 24 December 2025.
Details of the Robbery Attempt
Jordan Peebles, armed with a kitchen knife, entered the shop with the intent to commit robbery. During the altercation, Peebles assaulted a staff member and proceeded to fill a bag with items from behind the counter. The situation escalated quickly as the robber threatened violence while gathering goods.
Brave Intervention by Shop Worker
Displaying remarkable presence of mind, the shop worker managed to exit the premises safely. Once outside, the worker immediately closed the security shutter, effectively trapping Peebles inside the shop. This decisive action prevented the robber from escaping and allowed time for authorities to respond.
Capture and Legal Proceedings
CCTV footage from the scene captured Peebles desperately trying to force his way out of the locked shop, but his efforts were in vain. Police arrived promptly at the location and arrested Peebles as he attempted to exit. Following the arrest, Peebles pleaded guilty to robbery charges at Warwick Crown Court. He was subsequently sentenced to four years and four months in prison for his crimes.
