Fleetwood Mac Icon Lindsey Buckingham Attacked by Alleged Stalker
A Los Angeles court has charged Michelle Dick, a 54-year-old woman with a documented criminal history of stalking Fleetwood Mac legend Lindsey Buckingham, with multiple felonies following a recent physical attack on the musician. The incident occurred on March 25 in Santa Monica, California, where Dick is accused of throwing an unidentified substance at Buckingham, who is 76 years old.
Multiple Felony Charges Filed
According to legal documents reviewed by Rolling Stone, Dick faces a total of seven criminal counts. These charges include making criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon involving a motor vehicle, and felony vandalism. Additionally, she has been charged with stalking both Buckingham and another individual identified in court papers as Stephanie N.
The court has issued an arrest warrant for Dick with bail set at $300,000, having found probable cause to proceed with the charges. This legal action comes amid a series of connected incidents involving the alleged stalker and the renowned musician.
History of Harassment and Restraining Orders
This shocking assault follows just over a year after Buckingham obtained a permanent restraining order against Dick. Authorities indicate that Dick has been harassing Buckingham since 2021. Court filings reveal that Buckingham reported Dick began plaguing his wife, Kristen, with phone calls in 2021, falsely claiming to be his biological daughter.
Buckingham provided chilling testimony about Dick's alleged campaign of terror, accusing her of threatening to kill him and his family, appearing at his residence, and even making a fraudulent 911 call that resulted in police descending on his property while he slept, leading to his temporary handcuffing.
Previous Criminal Record
Dick has an extensive history of legal issues predating her involvement with Buckingham. In 2016, she was arrested in Alameda County, California, and faced multiple misdemeanor charges including:
- Two counts of excessive blood alcohol/refusal
- One count of DUI
- One count of driving with blood alcohol level at 0.08% or higher
- One count of battery with injury on a peace officer
- One count of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer and EMT
Dick ultimately pleaded no contest to driving with a 0.08% or higher blood alcohol level and admitted to having excessive blood alcohol. Under her plea bargain, other charges were dropped, and although originally sentenced to 20 days in jail, she served only three days at Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County. She then completed three years of probation ending in January 2020.
Escalating Stalking Behavior
Buckingham's current five-year restraining order against Dick represents an extension of a temporary restraining order that expired on December 20, 2024. During a hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court that day, both Buckingham and his wife provided declarations detailing the harassment.
According to Buckingham's sworn testimony, Dick allegedly acquired his wife's business phone number and made dozens of calls daily over a three-month period in late 2021 and early 2022. He described messages where Dick claimed to be his child and made death threats against him and his family.
Buckingham insisted he is not Dick's father and had no personal relationship with her. He further alleged that Dick blamed him for facial deformities she suffered as a child and demanded money from him.
Recent Incidents and Police Involvement
In September 2024, Dick allegedly returned to harassing the Buckingham family, leaving collages featuring pictures of Buckingham and his wife's faces at their letterboxes. Although they didn't see Dick at their homes, Buckingham and his wife identified her as the creator through Instagram images included in the collages.
Kristen Buckingham had security installed at her separate residence as a result of these incidents. Shortly after the collages appeared, one of her guards spotted Dick parked outside and called police, who followed her to the Pacific Coast Highway. According to Buckingham, police heard Dick "rambling about me being her father and suffocating her as [a] child" before releasing her with instructions not to return.
That November, police responded to a 911 call traced to Dick's cell phone that falsely reported Buckingham's son William was suicidal and gunshots had been heard at the residence. Officers woke Buckingham, handcuffed him, and searched his property for 20 minutes before determining it was a false alarm.
Recent Developments and Family Response
Following the March attack, Dick gave an interview to KTLA where she doubled down on claims of being Buckingham's daughter, stating "He wasn't a father to me but he's my birth father." She admitted approaching Buckingham in the week before the attack and visiting his Brentwood home last year, while claiming she was unaware of the restraining order against her.
Legal documents show a sheriff's deputy attempted unsuccessfully to serve Dick with the restraining order in the Bay Area in December 2025, approximately a year after the judge granted Buckingham the protective order.
In the aftermath of the attack, Buckingham's friends and family have rallied around him. His 26-year-old daughter Leelee Welles Buckingham was seen arriving at his Brentwood property with her boyfriend, carrying her dog Billy. According to Kristen Buckingham's declaration, it was Leelee and her mother who first contacted detectives about Dick's voicemails in 2021, initiating the investigation.
A representative from the executive protection firm Lions 4 Security was also observed among those visiting Buckingham this week, indicating heightened security measures following the disturbing incident.
