A Florida man found himself on the wrong side of the law earlier this month after he was discovered walking completely naked along a highway in near-freezing conditions, allegedly as part of a TikTok challenge.
The Chilly Discovery
The incident occurred on Broken Arrow Trail in Polk County, where a passing motorist spotted Anthony Day, 41, walking "buck-naked" despite the temperature being a brisk 36 degrees Fahrenheit. The entire episode was captured on the commuter's Tesla dashcam. The driver promptly alerted the sheriff's office.
In a Facebook video posted on Thursday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd provided colourful commentary on the arrest. "You know what buck-naked means. He’s not even wearing any socks," Judd stated. "You can be naked and wearing socks, but buck-naked means you don’t have anything on."
A Bizarre Encounter with Police
When deputies arrived at the scene, the situation took several strange turns. According to an arrest report obtained by WFLA, Day initially provided officers with a false name and address, later claiming he was "protecting his privacy."
Sheriff Judd relayed the peculiar conversation that ensued. "We asked him, ‘Are you cold?’ Not a bit. What are you doing? Well, it’s a TikTok challenge. You don’t even have your cell phone. You’re really naked when you don’t have your cell phone," Judd recounted.
Legal Repercussions and Ironic Outcome
The bizarre justification fell flat with investigators, who noted Day had no camera to record the supposed challenge. His naked journey concluded with a trip to the Polk County Jail, where he arrived in the same state he was arrested.
Anthony Day now faces multiple charges, including disorderly conduct, resisting an officer without violence, and exposure of sexual organs. Sheriff Judd offered a pro tip in his social media post: "If you walk down the road buck naked, you're probably going to get arrested for indecent exposure, and if you lie to the po-po that's a criminal charge too."
