A British man evacuated from a cruise ship following a suspected hantavirus outbreak has been identified as former policeman Martin Anstee, 56.
Mr Anstee was working as an expedition guide aboard the Dutch-flagged MV Hondius when he fell ill. He was airlifted from the vessel this morning alongside two other individuals and transported to a medical facility in Europe for treatment.
The MV Hondius, an expedition cruise ship, has been at the centre of a health scare after several passengers and crew members reported symptoms consistent with hantavirus, a rare but potentially severe illness transmitted through rodents.
Mr Anstee, a former police officer, had been employed as a guide on the ship, which operates in remote regions. The evacuation was carried out by a medical flight, and the three individuals are now receiving specialist care.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and the ship remains in port while investigations continue into the outbreak.
