Golden Doodle Renamed 'Jet Blue' After Owner Abandons Dog at Airport Check-In

A woman has been arrested and charged with animal abandonment and resisting arrest after leaving her golden doodle puppy tied up at a check-in counter at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The incident, which occurred on February 2, 2026, has led to the two-year-old dog being affectionately renamed "Jet Blue" by authorities and rescue workers.

Airport Incident Unfolds

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect approached a JetBlue check-in desk around 11:39 p.m., accompanied by her carry-on luggage and the golden doodle on a lead. Surveillance footage shows the dog appearing cheerful and energetic, sniffing around as the woman conversed with airline staff. However, the situation quickly deteriorated when she was informed that she needed to complete online documentation to travel with the animal as a service dog.

When the required paperwork was not submitted, the passenger was denied a boarding pass. Instead of making alternative arrangements for her pet, she tied the dog to a metal carry-on baggage sizer and walked away, leaving the pup forlornly watching as she disappeared into the airport. Airport employees immediately stepped in to comfort the abandoned animal with pats and cuddles while security was alerted.

Confrontation and Arrest

Officers located the woman at Gate D1, where she was attempting to board her flight. Bodycam footage released by police captures the confrontation, with an officer stating, "We’re gonna walk you back to where your dog’s at. You left your dog at the ticket counter." The woman, dressed in blue slacks and a black hoodie, claimed she was trying to rebook her flight and implied it was acceptable to leave the dog behind because it had a tracking device.

As officers escorted her back through the security checkpoint, she became hostile and resisted detention, leading to her arrest. The LVMPD emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on animal abuse and neglect, reminding the public that abandoning an animal is a serious criminal offense. In a statement, they added, "We can’t believe we have to say this… but please don’t abandon your dog at the airport — or anywhere else."

Rescue and Renaming

After the arrest, Animal Protective Services took temporary custody of the golden doodle, but the owner never returned to claim him. Following a mandatory 10-day hold period, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas assumed care of the pup. In a heartwarming turn, he has been renamed "Jet Blue" in honor of the airline whose staff were involved in the incident.

The dog is now safe in foster care and will soon be placed in a new, loving home. Police concluded their update with a note of affection for Jet Blue, highlighting that he has been a very good boy throughout the ordeal. This case underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and the legal consequences of neglect, while also showcasing the compassion of airport workers and rescue organizations in ensuring the well-being of abandoned animals.
