British man accused of US murders dies in Georgia jail

A British-born man accused of a deadly shooting spree in the United States has been found dead in a Georgia prison, authorities have confirmed.

Suspect dies in custody

Olaolukitan Adon Abel, 26, a US Navy veteran, was discovered unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday evening. He was later pronounced dead. Officials have not disclosed a cause of death but stated that no suspicious circumstances were involved.

Charges of murder

Abel had been charged with the murders of Lauren Bullis, an employee of the Department of Homeland Security, and Prianna Weathers. Police were also pursuing an additional murder charge after Tony Matthews, who was injured in a shooting outside a shopping centre, died on Sunday.

US homeland security secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed that Abel, who received US citizenship in 2022, was responsible for what he described as 'acts of pure evil'.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and Abel's background as a British-born individual who later became a US citizen and served in the military.
