New images have emerged showing a British influencer in handcuffs after her arrest on suspicion of attempting to murder her husband by drugging his wine in a disturbing life insurance plot. Amanda Jeffrey, a 45-year-old author and English teacher with close to 400,000 Instagram followers, was detained by Spanish police in Majorca on Wednesday following allegations from her businessman husband, Victor.
Hospitalisation and Police Investigation
Earlier this year, Victor was hospitalised for three days after falling into a deep sleep following what he claims was a deliberate poisoning incident on January 10. Medical tests conducted during his hospital stay revealed significant quantities of two different types of sedative drugs in his system. When questioned by medical staff about taking any substances, Victor firmly denied ingesting anything voluntarily.
The Alleged Poisoning Incident
According to Spanish news outlet Ultima Hora and police statements, Victor recounted a chilling moment when his wife allegedly handed him a glass of wine. "She filled two wine glasses and told me: 'Drink from this one, my glass, it has more,'" Victor told officers. After tasting the drink and complaining it tasted bad, he claims Ms Jeffrey insisted he finish the entire contents. Shortly afterwards, he lost consciousness and was admitted to hospital where the sedatives were detected.
Life Insurance Pressure and Legal Proceedings
In a statement to the police's Family and Women's Unit, which took charge of the investigation, Victor revealed that while he had a will naming his brother as executor, his wife had been pressuring him to take out life insurance policies. Following her husband's allegations, Ms Jeffrey appeared before a court in Palma on Thursday evening where the judge released her with a restraining order but no bail conditions. She has yet to make any public comment about the accusations.
Restraining Order Conditions
In Spain, such restraining orders typically prevent the person under investigation from approaching within 200 to 500 metres of the alleged victim and prohibit any form of communication. The couple, who live in Palma with their young son, must now maintain strict separation while police continue their investigation into the serious allegations.
Contrasting Public Persona
The arrest comes just months after Ms Jeffrey publicly celebrated her marriage in an emotional Instagram post marking their sixth wedding anniversary. Sharing a photograph of herself in a white dress holding her husband's hand, she wrote: "6 years married. Still standing. Still loving. Still us. Through sickness and in health...Always. Forever. Us." This public declaration of enduring love stands in stark contrast to the current criminal allegations.
Professional Background and Local Standing
Ms Jeffrey is a Spanish national with British parentage who has built a respected career as an English teacher, author and television personality in Majorca. She regularly appears on Spanish talk shows and shares English teaching videos on her social media platforms. In 2014, she produced a documentary titled 'Mallorca No Es Magaluf' (Majorca Is Not Magaluf) that explored the island's authentic culture beyond tourist stereotypes. She has also written columns for the English-speaking Majorca Daily Bulletin newspaper.
Spanish police continue to investigate the case as new details emerge about the allegations against the prominent British influencer living on the Mediterranean island. The contrast between her public persona as a loving wife and respected educator with the serious criminal accusations has shocked both her followers and the local community in Palma.
