Trump described the conversation as 'very good' and expressed support for the initiative.
Ceasefire Proposal
The proposed ceasefire would coincide with Russia's annual Victory Day celebrations, which commemorate the Soviet Union's defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. Trump's endorsement of the plan has raised concerns among Western allies, who view it as a potential concession to Moscow.
Ukraine's Response
Ukrainian officials have strongly rejected Trump's assertion that the country is 'militarily defeated,' calling it a distortion of the reality on the ground. Kyiv continues to resist Russian forces and has urged the international community to maintain pressure on the Kremlin.
Other Developments
Separately, Ukraine has called on Israel to seize the vessel Panormitis, alleging it is carrying grain stolen from Russian-occupied territories. The vessel's management company has denied the claim. Meanwhile, the European Union is exploring ways to offer Ukraine interim benefits, such as increased market access and participation in EU programmes, as full membership remains unlikely in the near term.
Ukraine has also reported a surplus in certain weapons production and has proposed defence cooperation with the United States. The EU is considering imposing stricter conditions on a €90 billion loan to Kyiv.
