Former US President Donald Trump has publicly reiterated his commitment to stand with the people of Iran, following reports that more than 50 protestors have been killed in defiance of his warnings.
Truth Social Posts Signal Support
On Saturday afternoon, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to declare that the United States is 'ready to help' Iranians. This statement came after hundreds have reportedly been killed during ongoing unrest. 'Iran is looking for FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The USA stands ready to help!!!,' he posted at 1.27pm.
Just moments before his own message, the former president reshared a post on X from South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham concerning the protests across the Middle East. Graham's post drew a sharp contrast with the previous administration's approach.
A Stark Contrast to Obama Era
'This is truly not the Obama administration when it comes to standing up to the Iranian ayatollah and his religious Nazi henchmen, and standing behind the people of Iran protesting for a better life,' Graham's statement read in part. It concluded with a direct warning to the regime: 'To the regime leadership: your brutality against the great people of Iran will not go unchallenged. Make Iran Great Again.'
The protests, which have now lasted for two weeks, have seen a significant and violent response from authorities. More than 200 demonstrators are believed to have been killed since the unrest began, highlighting the severe crackdown.
Venezuela Also in Focus
In a separate post on Saturday, Trump also turned his attention to Venezuela, expressing support for its people. This follows the capture and imprisonment of President Nicolas Maduro one week prior. 'I love the Venezuelan people, and am already making Venezuela rich and safe again,' Trump stated, adding, 'Congratulations and thank you to all of those people who are making this possible!!!'
These coordinated social media statements underscore Trump's continued active role in commenting on international affairs and positioning himself in stark opposition to regimes he deems adversarial, while aligning US support with protest movements.
