Strictly Star Flavia Cacace Opens Up About Post-Show Struggles
Flavia Cacace, the former Strictly Come Dancing professional, has candidly discussed the significant challenges she faced in the years following her departure from the BBC's flagship entertainment programme. The dancer, now 46, participated in the show from 2006 to 2012, partnering with celebrities such as astrologer Russell Grant, former Coronation Street actor Craig Kelly, and winning the Glitterball Trophy with ex-gymnast Louis Smith in her final season.
A Difficult Transition Away from the Spotlight
In a recent interview, Flavia described leaving the show after seven years as "really tough." She revealed that for two to three years after her exit, she found it extremely difficult to watch Strictly Come Dancing, even struggling to hear the iconic theme tune. "I could not bring myself to watch it," she admitted, highlighting the emotional impact of stepping away from such a prominent role.
However, Flavia's perspective has shifted over time. After marrying actor Jimi Mistry, whom she met on the show, she has gradually learned to embrace Strictly once more. In recent years, she has engaged with the programme through commentating roles, including appearances on It Takes Two's choreography corner and various radio segments. "I have watched it, and I have actually enjoyed it," she said. "You do get hooked once you watch it again and you start having a favourite you want to win."
Widespread Changes Among Strictly Professionals
Flavia's reflections come amid reports of sweeping changes to the professional dancer lineup for the upcoming series. Following the sudden departure of hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, a string of professionals have reportedly been axed, including Michelle Tsiakkas, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Karen Hauer, and Nadiya Bychkova.
Insiders suggest that these moves are part of a broader effort by show bosses to refresh the programme. A source told The Sun that all current dancers will have meetings in the coming weeks to discuss their futures, with producers keen to "shake things up" and create a "new era" after recent behind-the-scenes drama.
Notably, Karen Hauer, the longest-serving professional in the show's history having joined in 2012, has been informed that her contract will not be renewed. A source explained to the Daily Mail, "It's very much a case of out with the old and in with the new. As the longest-serving female dancer, Karen found out last week that her time on Strictly is over."
Embracing a New Chapter
Despite the initial hardships, Flavia Cacace has found a renewed appreciation for Strictly Come Dancing, illustrating the complex journey many professionals face after leaving the show. Her experience underscores the personal and professional adjustments required when transitioning from such a high-profile television role.
As the programme undergoes significant changes, with new faces expected to join the professional roster, Flavia's story serves as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact Strictly has on its dancers, both during and after their time on the dance floor.
