Steph and Dom Parker: A Decade of Change Since Gogglebox Exit

Beloved Gogglebox stars Steph and Dom Parker, who became household names on the Channel 4 show, have experienced a rollercoaster of events since their departure in 2016. The couple, married since 1998, joined the series in its inaugural 2013 season and quickly won over audiences with their witty commentary and humorous takes on television highlights.

Health Scare and Financial Struggles

In 2019, Steph revealed a harrowing near-death experience after contracting double pneumonia on Boxing Day the previous year. She described feeling disoriented due to low oxygen levels, attributing the illness to exhaustion from overwork during the busy Christmas period. Dom recounted the ordeal as a stark reminder of life's fragility.

Financial challenges also hit the couple hard. By 2021, they faced debts of £1.8 million, leading to the sale of their Grade I-listed boutique hotel in Sandwich, Kent. They had purchased the property, known as The Salutation, for £2.6 million in 2004 and invested an additional £2.5 million in renovations. The hotel's closure in 2020 resulted in liquidation and lost guest deposits, prompting their move to the Canary Islands as they sought a fresh start.

Heartbreaking Loss and New Ventures

Last year, Steph and Dom endured emotional pain with the death of their miniature Dachshund, Gigi, who had appeared alongside them on Gogglebox. They shared the sad news on Instagram, expressing grief and gratitude for the support from their 25,800 followers. The couple described Gigi passing away at home in their arms, joining their other dog, Coco.

On a brighter note, the Parkers have launched a new business venture: Steph and Dom's Gin - Aftermath 1666. Priced at £36.40, this unique gin boasts oak and smoke flavours, distinguishing it from more traditional varieties. They promote it as a drink best enjoyed neat or in a martini, and have used social media, including a Valentine's Day tutorial by Dom, to market the product.

Life After Gogglebox

Since leaving the show, Steph and Dom have remained active in the public eye. They released a book and participated in TV series such as The Jump, Celebrity Masterchef, and Celebrity Hunted. Their journey over the past decade reflects both the highs and lows of life beyond reality television, showcasing resilience in the face of adversity.

Gogglebox continues to air on Channel 4 every Friday at 9pm, but for Steph and Dom, the focus has shifted to personal recovery, new opportunities, and sharing their experiences with loyal fans through social media and entrepreneurial efforts.
