Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Unveils 2026 Nominees with Star-Studded Lineup

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its list of 17 performer nominees for induction in 2026, showcasing a diverse array of musical legends. Among the standout names are Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Shakira, and Iron Maiden, representing genres from pop and hip-hop to heavy metal and R&B.

Diverse Musical Icons in the Running

This year's nominations cast a wide net across the music industry, including rap innovators like the Wu-Tang Clan, soul-jazz vocalist Sade, and Britpop icons Oasis. The list also features returning nominees such as Billy Idol and Joy Division/New Order, who missed out on induction last year. Notably, ten of the 17 nominees are first-time contenders on the ballot, including Jeff Buckley, INXS, and Luther Vandross.

Phil Collins, with his iconic hits In the Air Tonight and One More Night, has earned eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 1985 for No Jacket Required. Lauryn Hill made history with her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which became the first hip-hop record to win the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1999.

Sade, also a previous nominee, is celebrated for soft-rock classics like Smooth Operator and The Sweetest Taboo. Iron Maiden played a pivotal role in the new wave of British heavy metal with albums such as The Number of the Beast.

Other nominees include INXS, who dominated the late 1980s with tracks like Need You Tonight, and Pink, known for her chart-topping albums and singles. The Wu-Tang Clan are hailed as rap pioneers since their groundbreaking 1993 debut Enter the Wu-Tang.

Eligibility and Voting Process

Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to be eligible for induction. The nominees will be voted on by over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. The 2026 inductees will be announced in April, alongside honorees in special categories like musical influence and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

John Sykes, chair of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, stated, "This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of Rock & Roll and its continued impact on youth culture." Last year's inductees included Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, and The White Stripes, among others.
