The two chefs shared a professional relationship spanning more than three decades, beginning when Novelli spotted Wheeler's talent as a teenage college student in France.

Wheeler's culinary journey was nothing short of remarkable. After beginning his career in French kitchens as a teenager, he worked alongside Novelli at numerous establishments before they parted ways professionally in the early 2000s. Wheeler then ascended to become executive chef at the prestigious Stoke Park Country Club, Spa & Hotel in Buckinghamshire, where his leadership helped the venue thrive.
His television appearances brought him wider recognition, particularly his participation in the 2016 series of Great British Menu, where he represented the south west and cooked for guest judge Grace Dent. Wheeler also made memorable contributions to Saturday Kitchen, showcasing his expertise to weekend audiences.

He demonstrated his commitment to charity by completing the London Marathon in 2006 while dressed as a chef and flipping a pancake to raise funds for Get Kids Going.
