A major UK airport has issued a concise three-word message aimed at helping passengers achieve a 'simple' security screening experience. London Luton Airport shared the advice on X (formerly Twitter), urging travellers to remember: 'Bag. Tray. Go.' The post encouraged passengers to be 'Security smart' and enjoy a friendly, straightforward process when flying from Luton.
Guidance for a Smoother Journey
Alongside the 'Bag. Tray. Go.' tip, the airport directed social media users to its website, which offers detailed advice for navigating security. The airport emphasises that planning ahead when packing luggage can significantly simplify the experience. 'Whether you’re packing for a short city break, a longer holiday, or condensing your life into a few suitcases for a one-way trip, you’ll need to decide what’s needed for your trip,' the website states.
Strict rules apply to what can be carried in hold and hand luggage. The airport recommends double-checking permitted items before each flight and taking extra care when packing to avoid delays. All liquid containers in hand luggage must be under 100ml each, including creams, pastes, lotions, and gels. Passengers should keep liquids inside their bags for screening. Once through security, full-sized liquid products can be purchased, and empty water bottles can be refilled at water fountains.
Step-by-Step Security Process
The guidance outlines the necessary steps from arrival, including checking in with the airline or dropping off hold luggage. After these steps, passengers proceed to security. At the screening area, passengers should place bags and coats into trays. Smaller items such as money, belts, and jewellery can be stored in hand baggage or coat pockets to minimise loose items.
Luton Airport advises: 'Once you’re called forward, put your belongings (bags, coats, etc.) into a tray and remember not to overfill one tray. If you need two or more trays, or if you have any items that don’t fit in a tray, overhang, or sit too high above the top of the tray, a Security Officer will assist you.' The airport adds that airside can be busy and distracting, so making life easy by stowing small items in hand baggage or coat pockets helps passengers grab only a couple of things once through.
Some passengers may be randomly selected for a scan, which typically takes a few minutes. After security, travellers can proceed to the departures area to wait for their flights.
