Love Is Blind Season 10 Sparks Viewer Confusion Over Format Shift
Netflix's hit reality dating series Love Is Blind has launched its tenth season with a historic twist, but fans are expressing bewilderment over a significant production change. The show, which follows singles forming connections without seeing each other in pods, has debuted its largest batch of couples yet, yet one pair's separate journey has left audiences puzzled.
Unprecedented Scale and a Solo Escape
The new series features 32 fresh contestants from Ohio, with the opening six episodes chronicling their pod-based courtships. This season has set a record with seven engagements, marking the biggest group in the show's history. However, viewers quickly noticed that while six couples jetted off to the traditional Mexico getaway, one duo—Christine and Vic—embarked on a private trip to Malibu instead.
This deviation from the usual format prompted a flurry of questions on social media platforms. On Reddit, one fan queried, "Why did one couple go to Malibu but the rest to Cabo?" Speculation ran rampant, with theories ranging from passport issues to production oversights. Another commenter recalled similar situations in past seasons, suggesting it might be due to more engagements than planned.
Behind the Scenes: Budget and Logistics
The reason for the split, as explained by show creator Chris Coelen, is straightforward: production limitations. In an interview with Tudum, Coelen revealed that the show has never had the resources to send more than six couples to Mexico. "We've never had the resources to send more than six couples to Mexico, but this season, we felt so good about the couples that for the very first time we chose to follow seven of them," he stated.
To accommodate the extra couple, production offered Christine and Vic the chance for a solo getaway in Malibu. Coelen noted that this pair had fewer overlapping connections with other contestants, making them ideal candidates for the separate trip. He further disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that budget constraints are a perennial issue, with the team already stretching to follow six couples typically.
Fan Reactions and Future Appearances
On X, fans shared mixed emotions. One viewer expressed sadness at missing out on Christine and Vic's interactions in Mexico, while another questioned if they had missed an explanation. Despite the confusion, Coelen assured that while cameras won't track the Malibu couple as extensively, they will still make appearances throughout the series.
This season also saw an initial eighth engagement between Elissa and Miguel, which was called off just a day later, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the show. As Love Is Blind continues to evolve, this format change underscores the challenges of scaling a popular series while maintaining its core romantic drama.
Love Is Blind Season 10 is now available for streaming on Netflix, offering fans a blend of familiar pod-based romance and new logistical twists.
