Kuwait International Airport Targeted in Iranian Drone Strikes, Radar System Damaged
Kuwait International Airport has sustained significant damage to its radar system following multiple drone attacks, as confirmed by the country's Civil Aviation Authority via the state news agency KUNA on Saturday. The assaults, which resulted in no casualties, were attributed to Iran, its proxies, and supported armed factions by a spokesperson later in the day.
Escalating Tensions in the Middle East
This incident reignites fears of the ongoing Middle East conflict broadening, especially after Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels launched missiles at Israel earlier in the day. This marked their first such attack since the war began five weeks ago, with the Houthis warning that operations would persist until aggression on all fronts ceases. Israel reported successfully intercepting a missile from Yemen.
Experts have raised concerns that the Houthi group might attempt to block the Bab al-Mandab Strait south of Yemen, which could further disrupt critical shipping lanes in the Red Sea region. The involvement of these factions risks prolonging and expanding a conflict that has already entered its fifth week, adding to regional instability.
The drone strikes on Kuwait's airport highlight the increasing reach of Iranian-backed operations, targeting key infrastructure in neighbouring countries. This development underscores the volatile nature of the current geopolitical landscape, with potential implications for international travel and trade routes.
