King Charles and Queen Camilla commenced their state visit to the United States on Monday with an afternoon tea at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., attended by over 650 guests. The embassy's head chef, Craig Harnden, prepared a menu featuring four types of sandwiches: Scottish smoked salmon and lemon butter, British beef and horseradish, egg mayonnaise, and pickled cucumbers.
Additionally, scones were served with clotted cream, strawberry jam, and a strawberry on top. The royal couple's initial engagements included a private tea with Donald and Melania Trump, followed by the garden party at the embassy.
King Charles is scheduled to address Congress on Tuesday, marking only the second time a British monarch has done so, before their visit concludes on Wednesday.
