Jimmy Kimmel Declares 'Code Orange De-Mental Emergency' Over Trump's Social Media Meltdown
Late-night television hosts have launched a scathing critique of Donald Trump's recent social media activity, with Jimmy Kimmel branding it a 'code orange de-mental emergency'. The comments came as part of a broader discussion on Trump's attempts to distract from the fallout of the unsealed Jeffrey Epstein files, which have implicated numerous high-profile figures.
Trump's Bridge Outburst and Epstein Distraction Tactics
Kimmel focused intently on Trump's meltdown over the Gordie Howe International Bridge, a $4.6 billion project connecting Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan. Trump falsely claimed the bridge was built with 'virtually no US content' and threatened to block its opening, set for later this spring. 'Come on, Canada, you know how this works,' Kimmel quipped. 'Pull out the Sharpie, cross out the Gordie Howe, write in the Donald Trump and everybody can relax, alright?'
The host argued that this outburst was a deliberate effort to shift attention away from the Epstein files, where Trump's name appears over one million times, according to Representative Jamie Raskin. 'There's only 3 million pages in the whole thing,' Kimmel noted. 'That's more than Harry Potter gets mentioned in all seven Harry Potter books.'
Howard Lutnick's Contradictory Epstein Island Visit
Also under scrutiny was Howard Lutnick, Trump's commerce secretary, who claimed in the past to have cut ties with Epstein in 2005 after an inappropriate remark. However, unsealed emails reveal Lutnick visited Epstein's private island in 2012. At a congressional hearing, Lutnick admitted to having lunch with Epstein during a family vacation, bringing along his wife, four children, and nannies.
'What a fun dad!' Kimmel mocked. 'Where do you want to go, kids? Want to have lunch with the most notorious pedophile in American history?' He emphasized that the issue was not just the visit but Lutnick's prior denial of ever being in the same room with Epstein again.
Senator Chris Van Hollen questioned Lutnick about references to Epstein's interest in one of his nannies, to which Lutnick claimed no knowledge. Despite this, only one Republican, Senator Thomas Massie, has called for Lutnick's resignation, while others like Representative Lisa McClain focus on immigration rhetoric.
Jordan Klepper's Satirical Take on Lutnick's Excuses
On The Daily Show, Jordan Klepper joined in the ridicule, replaying Lutnick's testimony about the island visit. 'There's no way that seven years after saying he would never see Epstein again that he visited him on his private island!' Klepper said facetiously. He mocked Lutnick's defense of bringing his family, stating, 'I went to Epstein Island but don't worry, I brought my kids' isn't the excuse you think it is.'
Klepper added, 'Maybe I shouldn't be too harsh on Howard. Let he who has never sworn he cut ties with a convicted sex offender only to later dock his private yacht onto a private sex island for a quick lunch before continuing his family vacation with not one but multiple nannies cast the first one and done.'
Broader Political Hypocrisy and Public Outcry
Kimmel expressed frustration with Republican figures who publicly denounce crimes like pedophilia while seemingly protecting individuals linked to the Epstein files. 'Can you imagine how ignorant these people are, screaming about pedophiles and rapists while members of their own party seem to be doing everything they can to protect the pedophiles and the rapists in the Epstein files?' he questioned.
The episode underscores ongoing tensions in U.S. politics, where late-night comedy serves as a sharp critique of leadership and accountability. As the Epstein files continue to unravel, hosts like Kimmel and Klepper highlight the absurdities and contradictions in public statements and actions.
