Kate Lawler, the television presenter and former Big Brother winner, has revealed that she only became a mother because her husband, Martin Bojtos, wanted children. The 45-year-old told the British Brief that if she had not met Boj, she would not have had children and would instead be a 'dog mum'.
Lawler, who won Big Brother at age 22, met Bojtos when she was 33 and was upfront about not wanting marriage or children. However, after seven years together, Bojtos kept raising the subject, and Lawler eventually changed her mind when she turned 40 after a fertility clinic visit revealed she was close to perimenopause with a low egg reserve.
The couple now have a four-year-old daughter, Noa, and Lawler insists on a 50/50 split of parenting responsibilities. However, she admits that the domestic load remains a point of contention, saying: 'A woman will always do more; we have it harder.' She also revealed that she had postnatal depression after Noa's birth, which required an intervention from her husband and professional help.
Lawler is currently working with Aldi on a campaign to raise awareness of mental health, with the supermarket adding guidance to baby wipes packaging. She also spoke about the challenges of perimenopause and balancing her career with motherhood.
