Jessie J Addresses Pregnancy Speculation and Advocates Body Acceptance
Singer Jessie J has directly responded to widespread fan speculation suggesting she is expecting her second child, firmly stating that "women can have bellies and not be pregnant." The 37-year-old artist revealed she received numerous messages and comments following a recent performance in Las Vegas where she wore a form-fitting lace catsuit during her No Secrets tour.
Setting the Record Straight on Social Media
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Jessie J clarified the situation with a candid post: "The amount of people messaging/commenting, asking me if I'm pregnant. No. I am not." She explained her appearance by noting, "I just have a little belly since Sky, BUT I also decided to wear a skin tight catsuit on the last day of my period/ovulation bloatation day." The singer concluded her statement by emphasizing, "women can have bellies and NOT be pregnant. What an insane thought. It's mad right?"
Fertility Struggles and Motherhood Journey
Jessie J, who welcomed her son Sky in May 2023 with basketball player boyfriend Chanan Colman, has been transparent about her challenging fertility journey. Her pregnancy with Sky came 13 months after she revealed suffering a heartbreaking miscarriage. The singer, diagnosed with breast cancer last year, remains a vocal advocate for infertility awareness and child loss support.
Reflecting on her experiences, Jessie shared, "I always say this, pregnancy, birth, I never thought it would come to me, I was a big advocate and still am for infertility and child loss. For years and years and years, that's what I spoke about and now I'm on the other side I feel a huge sense of guilt in some way because I know so many women and men are struggling."
Navigating Motherhood and Criticism
The singer offered insights into the complexities of motherhood, noting that each parent's experience is uniquely personal. She encouraged new parents to grant themselves "grace" during recovery and self-care periods. Jessie revealed experiencing harsh judgment from fellow mothers, stating, "Honestly, I've never experienced such savage people as mums. They're the most judgemental, they can be so savage."
Her advice to parents emphasizes self-compassion: "You just have to give yourself grace, like you've just grown a whole human inside your body and birthed it outside of your body. I think that would be my advice, just to give yourself grace, be patient, and to understand you gave birth to a whole other person. You can only do it your way."
Future Career Aspirations and Personal Growth
Beyond addressing pregnancy rumours, Jessie J recently discussed her evolving career ambitions during an appearance on the Women's Health UK Just As Well podcast. She revealed plans to explore comedy and acting in the coming year, expressing interest in stand-up comedy and film roles. The singer, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, has previous acting experience in musical theatre and voice roles, including childhood performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber productions and voice work in films like Ice Age: Collision Course.
Despite these new directions, Jessie confirmed she remains committed to music, planning tours and new recordings. She shared, "I'm obviously touring a lot next year. I definitely want to make more music. I haven't written a song for three years, but I know it's all there ready to come out." The artist also reflected on how motherhood has influenced her approach to ADHD management and personal fulfillment, stating her goals include being "happy, sane, enjoying what I do, calm, healthy, being as present as a mum as I am at work with some decent tunes out."
