Israeli Military Issues Immediate Evacuation Orders for Beirut Neighbourhoods
In a stark escalation of hostilities, the Israeli military has issued urgent evacuation orders for several neighbourhoods in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee delivered the warning via a post on social media platform X, instructing residents to leave "immediately" in anticipation of Israeli attacks.
Targeted Areas and Direct Warning
The evacuation orders specifically apply to the neighbourhoods of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Bourj el-Barajneh, Ghadir Perimeter, and Shiyah. Adraee emphasised that the Israeli Defense Forces will not hesitate to target individuals near Hezbollah elements, their facilities, or combat means. "You are putting yourselves and your lives in danger – therefore, evacuate the area immediately," he stated, underscoring the grave risk to civilians in these zones.
Mounting Casualties and Displacement
The warning comes amid a devastating assault on Lebanon, with the Lebanese Ministry of Health reporting at least 826 people killed by Israeli strikes, including many children. Additionally, 31 health workers have lost their lives in the conflict. Hundreds of thousands of Lebanese residents have been forced to flee their homes due to sweeping Israeli evacuation orders, exacerbating a humanitarian crisis in the region.
Context of the Israeli-US Assault
This evacuation directive is part of a broader Israeli-US military campaign that has ravaged Lebanon, leading to widespread displacement and significant loss of life. The orders highlight the intensifying focus on Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut's southern suburbs, raising concerns about further civilian casualties and infrastructure damage as the conflict persists.
