Iranian Official Defiantly Rages Against Israel During Rally as IDF Missile Explodes
In a dramatic scene that captured the escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iran's judiciary chief continued to deliver a fiery anti-Israel speech during a mass pro-regime rally in Tehran, even as an Israeli Defense Forces missile exploded in the background. The incident occurred during the annual Quds Day rally, where top Iranian officials gathered to show support for the Palestinian cause and opposition to Israel.
Defiant Rhetoric Amid Explosions
Speaking passionately on state television while completely ignoring the blast behind him, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei declared: 'We stand with the people against arrogance and Pharaoh-like oppressors. Our people are not afraid of the bombing, we will continue along this route.' The judiciary chief's defiant tone set the mood for the entire rally, where participants marched through Tehran holding images of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his successor Mojtaba Khamenei.
National security chief Ali Larijani, who also attended the Friday rally, dismissed the latest Israeli-US attacks on the capital as acts of desperation. 'These attacks are out of fear, out of desperation. One who is strong wouldn't bomb demonstrations at all. It's clear that it has failed,' Larijani told state television. He struck a particularly defiant note against US President Donald Trump, stating: 'Trump doesn't understand that the Iranian people are a brave nation, a strong nation, a determined nation. The more he presses, the stronger the nation's determination will become.'
Casualties and Regional Escalation
The rally was not without casualties. Iran's official IRNA news agency reported that one woman was killed in an explosion near the annual pro-government gathering. According to Press TV, the woman, described as an 'Iranian mother,' was fatally wounded by shrapnel from the strike. The Israeli army had earlier called for evacuations in two areas of Tehran's city center close to the rally site.
Meanwhile, the conflict has spread dramatically across the region as the war enters its 14th day:
- Explosions rocked Dubai after an Iranian drone struck the city's financial district, damaging a building in the International Finance Centre
- Saudi Arabia's defense ministry reported intercepting dozens of drones, including one targeting Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarter
- Two people died from drone debris in Oman according to state media
- Turkey's defense ministry confirmed NATO defenses intercepted a ballistic missile from Iran in Turkish airspace
- France announced its first soldier killed in the conflict, with Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion dying in an attack in Iraq's Erbil region
- In Israel, a strike on Zarzir injured approximately 60 people
- Lebanon has reported 687 people killed by Israeli attacks
Leadership Crisis and Trump's Threats
The attendance by Larijani marked one of the most high-profile public appearances by an Iranian official since the February 28 strike that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top officials. Meanwhile, reports suggest Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly unaware of the ongoing war and doesn't know he has succeeded his father. According to sources in Tehran, the 56-year-old is in a coma at Sina University Hospital following an airstrike and doesn't know about the conflict, the deaths of family members, or his own election as Supreme Leader.
US President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric on Friday, claiming: 'We are totally destroying the terrorist regime of Iran, militarily, economically, and otherwise.' In a Truth Social post, Trump added: 'Iran's Navy is gone, their Air Force is no longer, missiles, drones and everything else are being decimated, and their leaders have been wiped from the face of the earth.' The president concluded with a sinister warning: 'Watch what happens to these deranged scumbags today.'
As demonstrators in Tehran trampled on images of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the regional conflict shows no signs of abating, with attacks spreading across multiple countries and casualties mounting on all sides. The annual Quds Day rally, traditionally a show of support for Palestinians, has become a focal point in an increasingly dangerous regional confrontation that threatens to draw in more international players.
