Coronation Street 'Not on Brink of Collapse' Despite Cast Exits, Insiders Insist

Recent weeks have sparked concern among Coronation Street fans after a wave of cast departures, including legends Helen Worth and Sue Cleaver, and rumours that the ITV soap could face the axe. However, insiders have moved to reassure viewers that the show is far from cancellation, with major storylines planned for 2025 and beyond.

A soap insider told The Mirror: 'Corrie is in no way on the brink of collapse. There's some really exciting twists ahead for our favourite characters and couples, with a massive stunt that will no doubt bring the drama, as well as some hard-hitting storylines.' The insider added that new faces and returning characters will keep the show alive, dismissing claims of an imminent end as 'bonkers'.

Ratings concerns have also been addressed. A Coronation Street spokesperson said it is 'misleading' to focus on an episode that aired on a Thursday at 9pm, which is not the show's usual slot. They noted that the Monday night knife crime episode peaked at 3.9 million viewers, consolidating to the 2024 average of 4.4 million, making it the most watched soap on TV.

Regarding the recent exits, an insider explained that many departures were planned months or even a year ago, and are not part of a sudden exodus. While characters like Daisy Midgeley, Yasmeen Nazir, Craig Tinker, and Debbie Webster are leaving, storylines such as Debbie's dementia diagnosis will continue into 2026. Soap boss Kate Brooks has promised huge scenes for the Cobbles, ensuring Coronation Street's future on screens.
