Parents across the UK could be entitled to a financial boost of up to £2,000 per year to help cover childcare expenses, thanks to a government scheme designed to ease the burden on families.
What Is the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme?
The Tax-Free Childcare initiative allows eligible parents to claim up to £2,000 annually per child to help pay for approved childcare providers. For children with disabilities, the support increases to £4,000.
Who Qualifies?
To be eligible, parents must:
- Have a child aged 11 or under (or 16 if the child has a disability).
- Be working at least 16 hours per week and earning at least the National Minimum Wage.
- Have an annual income of less than £100,000.
How Does It Work?
For every £8 parents pay into a dedicated childcare account, the government adds £2, up to the maximum allowance. This can be used for Ofsted-registered childcare providers, including nurseries, childminders, and after-school clubs.
How to Apply
Applications are made online via the government’s official childcare service website. Parents will need their National Insurance number and details of their childcare provider.
