Wrexham Sign Manchester City's Callum Doyle for £7.5m

Wrexham have completed the signing of Manchester City defender Callum Doyle for an initial £7.5m, taking their summer spending past £30m as they aim to secure their Championship status. The 21-year-old becomes Phil Parkinson's tenth summer signing, with City including a buyback clause and a 25% sell-on clause in the deal.

Doyle, an England Under-21 international, has never made a first-team appearance for City but has gained extensive Championship experience through loan spells at Coventry, Leicester City, and Norwich City. He also helped Sunderland win promotion from League One in 2021-22 and reached the play-off final with Coventry.

Parkinson expressed delight at the signing, calling Doyle a 'talented young player with a lot of Championship experience.' Doyle said he was 'buzzing' to join Wrexham and had been 'interested in the Club from afar,' adding that he had been wanting a permanent move for some time.

Wrexham have already broken their club record twice this summer, signing Liberato Cacace and Lewis O'Brien, while also bringing in Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Ryan Hardie, George Thomason, Josh Windass, and Danny Ward. Despite back-to-back narrow defeats to start the Championship season, the club has shown promise.

Doyle's departure is part of a wider City exodus of young talent, following James McAtee's £30m move to Nottingham Forest and sales of Jacob Wright, Maximo Perrone, and Farid Alpha-Ruprecht. Additionally, 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan, signed for £12.5m, has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
