Gwen Stefani Opens Up About Blake Shelton and Spiritual Awakening

In a deeply personal revelation, music icon Gwen Stefani has shared intimate details about her relationship with husband Blake Shelton and her evolving spiritual journey. The 56-year-old singer disclosed during a conversation on the Hallow prayer and meditation app that she had never experienced what she describes as 'active love' before meeting the country superstar.

The Discovery of Active Love

Stefani explained to interviewer Jeff Cavins that active love represents a conscious, intentional choice to demonstrate care through consistent, tangible actions. According to Church Life Journal, this concept involves prioritizing a loved one's well-being over personal comfort.

'I experienced active love, I think, for the first time when I met my husband because I had never really received active love,' Stefani confessed. 'And I don't think I knew how to even receive it. I would be so uncomfortable when someone was sacrificing or actively trying to love me through their actions.'

From Colleagues to Soulmates

The couple's relationship began professionally when they both served as coaches on season seven of The Voice in 2014. At that time, Stefani was married to Gavin Rossdale while Shelton was married to Miranda Lambert. As their friendship deepened, both separated from their respective spouses.

Following their divorces, the co-stars transitioned from colleagues to romantic partners, becoming engaged in October 2020 and marrying in July 2021. Their relationship has since become one of Hollywood's most enduring love stories.

A Spiritual Transformation

Beyond her romantic revelations, Stefani spoke extensively about her spiritual evolution and deepening relationship with God. She described previously feeling disconnected from her own talents and plagued by performance anxiety.

'I always had so much anxiety about it,' she recalled about performing and songwriting. 'I felt my talent wasn't coming from me but I didn't necessarily know it was coming from God.'

Her perspective shifted dramatically over the last decade: 'I remember at a certain point going, "No. God made me to do this. And if I don't do it and share it, that's a sin. I have to keep doing it."'

The 'First Miracle' Pregnancy

One of Stefani's most profound spiritual experiences came when she became pregnant with her third child at age 44, an event she describes as her 'first miracle.' This followed deep conversations with a friend who had converted to Judaism and was studying the Torah.

The singer recalled her desperation to have another child after her son Kingston, then eight years old, began praying for a sibling. 'I told him, "I'm sorry, your mommy is too old to have a baby,"' Stefani remembered.

Miraculously, just four weeks later, she discovered she was pregnant with Apollo, whom she delivered naturally at 44. 'It was a full-on gift,' she said of becoming a mother for the third time.

Navigating Faith and Fear

Despite her spiritual awakening, Stefani admitted to ongoing struggles with faith. 'The more you know, the more fear you get,' she explained. 'You realize, "Oh my gosh, I'm running out of time and I need to get this together."'

Her religious journey has been complex. She previously married Rossdale in a Catholic ceremony in 2002 before their divorce 14 years later. Their marriage was reportedly annulled in 2021, the same year she married Shelton.

Through it all, Stefani's story reveals a woman transformed by love in multiple forms—romantic, spiritual, and maternal—each experience building upon the last to create the person she is today.
