George Michael's Model Friend Kay Beckenham Dies; Gifts Auctioned

Kay Beckenham, a British model and close friend of the late George Michael, has died. Following her death, items gifted to her by the singer were auctioned off by her daughter.

Among the items sold were a pair of Cutler and Gross sunglasses that fetched £5,700, an engraved Faith tour belt buckle for £700, a Cartier watch for £1,900, and a Bulgari 18ct gold ladies watch for £1,200. Beckenham had been a beneficiary of Michael's £98 million estate after his death in 2016.

In a letter to Omega Auctions, Beckenham's daughter described the bond between her mother and Michael as 'strong, loving and enduring,' noting that Michael was asked to be her godfather in 1999. She recalled him as a 'kind presence' in their lives.

Beckenham was considered one of the most sought-after models of her era, mingling with Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford. Her friendship with these models reportedly helped Michael cast them in his 1990 music video for 'Freedom'.

Omega Auctions stated that the items 'tell a story of loyalty, trust and the man behind the icon.' Michael died on Christmas Day 2016 at his home in Goring-On-Thames.
