Dancing With The Stars Pro Val Chmerkovskiy Hospitalised with Vertigo on Tour
Professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy has updated fans on his health after being hospitalised due to vertigo, which forced him to miss a performance during the ongoing Dancing With The Stars live tour. The incident occurred earlier this week, leading to his absence from a show at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater in Peoria, Illinois.
Vertigo Episode and Hospitalisation
In an Instagram video shared on Sunday, Chmerkovskiy described experiencing severe dizziness, stating, "I'm just spinning everywhere. And so, on the bus when it's moving, and I woke up, and I couldn't get myself together." Despite initially pushing through the condition for one performance, his symptoms worsened, necessitating hospital treatment.
Following his hospital visit, Chmerkovskiy posted a follow-up video to inform his followers that he had been diagnosed with BPPV, or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. He expressed relief, saying, "What up, my beautiful people? So, I got BPPV, which isn't too bad, thank God. There's no tumor in my brain, God forbid. And thankfully, it's not related to my neck injury."
Understanding BPPV and Recovery
According to the Mayo Clinic, BPPV is one of the most common causes of vertigo, characterised by sudden feelings of spinning or dizziness. This condition arises when crystals in the otolith organs inside the ear become dislodged, disrupting the detection of head movement and balance.
Chmerkovskiy reported feeling "a lot better" and confirmed his return to the stage, despite lingering mild vertigo. Ahead of a tour show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he assured fans, "I'm still a little fuzzy here and there, but good enough to perform. And I'll see you all tonight."
