The Repair Shop Star Dominic Chinea Injured in Workshop Drill Accident

Dominic Chinea, the beloved metalwork expert from BBC's The Repair Shop, has received an outpouring of support from fans after sustaining a painful hand injury in a workshop accident. The incident occurred while Dominic was using a powerful magnetic drill, resulting in his glove being pulled into the machinery.

Details of the Painful Workshop Incident

In a recent YouTube video, Dominic explained to viewers why his upload might be shorter than usual, revealing he had "just been an idiot" during a drilling operation. He described using a mag drill with significant torque when the equipment "ate my glove, pulled my hand in - in where the cutter is."

The star elaborated: "I think it was a little bolt sticking out, because I lost one of the grub screws that hold the cutters in and I replaced it with a bolt, and I think the head of the bolt sticking out, that should be flush. The grub screws are flush, the head of the bolt sticking out, I think, caught my glove and just pulled my hand into the drill."

Dominic assured fans he suffered no major damage, but admitted: "It's just cut and bruised and hurts like hell. I can't really move the last three fingers, I can, they're ok but my God it hurts." He showed viewers the remains of his ripped glove as a sobering reminder of workshop dangers.

Fan Reactions and Safety Advice

Fans quickly responded with concern and practical advice following Dominic's injury revelation:

  • One viewer commented: "I know hindsight's a wonderful thing Dom, but a first aid kit in the workshop and mobile out on a worktop nearby is a must for lone working. We want to keep watching you for years to come!"
  • Another advised: "Whether you can move your hand or not, you have to go and get an Xray and a proper assessment of your hand."
  • A third fan shared: "I wish you a speedy recovery and little pain in your injured hand. Greetings from Germany. PS: We've all been idiots sometimes."
  • A fourth warned: "Dom, get your hand checked out, I did exactly the same and also hoped it would just get better but I ended up with nerve damage."
  • Safety-conscious viewers noted: "I was taught during my apprenticeship to never wear gloves when using rotating machinery, you run the risk of losing fingers!"

Recent Poignant Repair Shop Episode

The injury update comes as viewers were recently moved by an emotional episode of the spin-off series The Repair Shop: On The Road. Dominic teamed up with co-star Will Kirk for a particularly poignant restoration project involving a cherished stuffed animal named Wappy.

Guest Robert brought his lifelong companion Wappy to the team, explaining the toy had been with him since he was born six weeks prematurely in 1974. Robert's sister Chris shared their family's emotional journey: "We nearly lost Robert. He had loads and loads of operations up until he was about eight. So, he's a miracle really. And all the while, he's had his wee pal Wappy."

Dominic brought the worn lamb to the barn where Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch - known as the Teddy Bear Ladies - carefully washed, disassembled, and restored Wappy. Robert was visibly thrilled with the transformation, happily reuniting with his restored childhood companion.

The Repair Shop continues to air on BBC One and remains available for streaming on BBC iPlayer, featuring both heartwarming restoration stories and the occasional real-world workshop challenges faced by its expert team.
