David Haye's Controversial Food Theft Plan on I'm A Celebrity
Former heavyweight boxing champion David Haye has sparked fresh controversy on ITV's I'm A Celebrity... South Africa after his team suffered two consecutive trial losses. The 45-year-old athlete, known for his competitive spirit, has devised a cunning plan to steal food from the rival camp, threatening to escalate tensions in the jungle.
Double Defeat Sparks Fury
Haye's Lions camp, led by football manager Harry Redknapp, faced a disappointing setback as they lost two trials in a row. This defeat meant the Lions were relegated to a basic meal of rice and beans, while the victorious Rhinos team, captained by Jimmy Bullard, enjoyed a lavish feast. Haye, visibly frustrated, expressed his disdain for losing, stating, "It is terrible being on this side, I am always on the winning side. I hate losing."
The Rhinos' celebratory cheers only added fuel to the fire, prompting Haye to hatch a bold scheme. He revealed his intention to intercept the food delivery intended for the Rhinos, which is typically lowered into the camp via a rope from the sky. Haye argued that anything passing through the Lions' airspace rightfully belongs to them, setting the stage for a potential confrontation.
The Cunning Plot Unveiled
In a heated discussion with his campmates, including Scarlett Moffatt, Haye outlined his plan. "What is stopping us jumping up and grabbing that bag? Nothing, because they're not allowed into our side," he declared. Moffatt supported the idea, questioning what penalties could be imposed. Haye then warned rival camp member Adam Thomas over the fence, "We have realised something. To get your goodies tonight, you're gonna have to go across lion airspace. So technically, anything within this vicinity going up from the barriers belongs to us."
When Thomas expressed concern, asking if Haye intended to snatch the bag, the ex-boxer replied defiantly, "I'm not snatching the bag. I'm just taking what belongs to us. You think I am joking. If any food comes into our territory, it's ours. We're lions. This is a lion's den." In a confessional, Haye added, "If the food comes across, whoever it was potentially for or not for, is neither my concern. I'm gonna take it and I'm gonna eat it."
Background of Recent Controversies
This food theft threat comes just 24 hours after Haye risked viewer backlash with a series of sexist comments. He claimed that "ugly birds" need better personalities to compensate for their appearance, and added that "most super pretty girls are just idiots." These remarks drew criticism from hundreds of people, including fellow campmate Beverley Callard, who branded Haye as sexist.
The Rhinos' victory was secured in a trial called Cut Throat Cliff, where Sinitta and Beverley outperformed Mo Farah and Seann Walsh. The challenge involved contestants answering questions while suspended on a cliff edge with bungee wires and ropes; incorrect answers forced them to cut their own ropes. Beverley emerged as the last one standing, winning the trial and the meal for her team.
Haye himself had previously lost a trial alongside Ashley Roberts, facing off against Adam Thomas and Craig Charles. Viewers will have to wait until Wednesday night's episode to see if Haye follows through with his threat to steal the food, potentially igniting further drama in the camp.
