Corey Feldman, the actor renowned for his role in the classic film Stand By Me, has publicly accused the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of excluding him from a planned tribute to the late director Rob Reiner at the 2026 Oscars ceremony. The In Memoriam segment during Sunday's broadcast is scheduled to honour Reiner onstage by featuring actors from his iconic movies, including Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan from When Harry Met Sally.
Feldman's Social Media Statement on the Alleged Snub
In a post written entirely in capital letters on the social media platform X, Feldman, now 54, confirmed that he was not invited to participate in the tribute. He suggested that his Stand By Me co-stars, Jerry O'Connell and Will Wheaton, were asked to take part, while he was left out. Feldman speculated that some might believe the omission is linked to his outspokenness about the childhood abuse he suffered and efforts to silence him, but he emphasised that the focus should remain on Reiner's memory.
"I'll Honour Rob My Own Way"
The former child star urged his supporters to cease any petitions advocating for his inclusion at the awards. "They don't need me there," Feldman wrote. "Will and Jerry got this I'm sure. They will do a fantastic job... I'll honour Rob my own way." He reiterated that the moment is not about him but about commemorating the tragic loss of Reiner, whom he described as a great man who showed love and compassion during their time working together.
Background on Rob Reiner's Death and Legacy
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found deceased from stab wounds in their Los Angeles home in December 2025. Their son, Nick, has been arrested and charged with their murders, pleading not guilty in February 2026. The film industry was deeply shaken by the loss of Reiner, a prolific director behind beloved movies such as The Princess Bride, Misery, and This Is Spinal Tap.
Following Reiner's death, Feldman expressed profound shock, posting on X about the director's significant influence on his life. He recalled how Reiner built a bond of trust with the four young actors in Stand By Me, fostering emotional performances through his meaningful guidance.
Academy's Response and Ongoing Silence
The Academy has not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding Feldman's allegations. As the Oscars approach, the controversy highlights ongoing discussions about inclusivity and recognition in Hollywood tributes, particularly for actors from seminal films like Stand By Me.
