Bruin the Clumber Spaniel Triumphs at Crufts 2026 with Claudia Winkleman Hosting

In a thrilling conclusion to the world's largest dog show, Bruin the Clumber Spaniel has been announced as the winner of Best In Show at Crufts 2026. The prestigious event, held at the NEC in Birmingham, saw television presenter Claudia Winkleman have the "huge honour" of handing over the famous Keddall Memorial Trophy to owner Lee Cox on Sunday evening.

Historic Victory for Clumber Spaniel Breed

Bruin's victory is particularly significant as it marks the first time a Clumber Spaniel has won Best In Show at Crufts since 1991. The dog triumphed over a fierce field of approximately 18,000 competitors, showcasing exceptional performance across categories such as Working, Pastoral, Terrier, Hound, Toy, Utility, and Gundog. As part of the win, Lee Cox received a replica trophy and a £200 cash prize.

Upon accepting the award, Cox became emotional, stating, "I can't believe it, it's just wonderful for this breed and for the first time in my life I'm speechless." Bruin now succeeds last year's champion, the Italian Whippet Miuccia, in the annals of Crufts history.

Claudia Winkleman Leads Celebrity-Filled Event

Claudia Winkleman, best known for hosting Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors, took on hosting duties this year, replacing regular presenter Clare Balding. Winkleman expressed her excitement about the role, saying, "I absolutely love dogs and there is literally nowhere else on earth I’d rather be. I can’t wait to join this incredible team."

After presenting the trophy, Winkleman clapped enthusiastically as Bruin embarked on a victory lap around the arena. She remarked on the electric atmosphere, noting, "The atmosphere, when he came out. They loved all the dogs, but this one - they loved!"

Runner-Up and Celebrity Highlights

The competition was intense, with Megan the Petit Basset Griffon securing the runner-up position. Other finalists included Viking the Tibetan mastiff, Hazel the Welsh Corgi, Freddie the Lakeland Terrier, Bendéen, Spencer the Miniature Schnauzer, and Dublin the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Adding glamour to the event, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden made her first appearance at Crufts. Holden shared her impressions, saying, "This was my first time at Crufts, and I felt a little bit overwhelmed... I always think that people that own dogs, we're all like-minded, and I don't trust people that don't like dogs." She praised the event's focus on sustainability and the well-behaved nature of the dogs.

Channel 4 Coverage and Future Prospects
