Cam Newton Declares He'll Never Marry, Compares Marriage to Being a 'Hostage'
Cam Newton: Marriage is Like Being a 'Hostage', Says Ex-NFL MVP

Former NFL Most Valuable Player Cam Newton has made a definitive declaration about his personal life, stating he is permanently removing himself from the marriage market. The 36-year-old ex-quarterback, who has fathered nine children with three different women, shared his unconventional views on a recent episode of the TalkLesShow.

Marriage Compared to Hostage Situation

During the candid conversation last Thursday, Newton offered a provocative analogy for matrimony. "I want to be around who want to be around me," Newton told the show's hosts. "So if that's five, if it's six if it's one. I like volunteers. I don't like hostages."

The Carolina Panthers icon elaborated further on his perspective, suggesting traditional marriage structures might not align with his approach to relationships. "I just want you to be happy, and if I'm the person that's bringing you happiness, you can have marriage with no commitment, and you don't have to have marriage to have a commitment," Newton explained.

Rejecting Conventional Relationship Norms

Newton made it clear that he sees no necessity in ever formalizing his relationships through marriage. "I don't think it to be anything," he reiterated. "I want people around me who want me to be around me and I want them around me."

The former athlete expanded his critique by comparing marriage to what he described as a "gift-giving contest." He questioned the transactional nature he perceives in some relationships, asking, "Are we doing life together or is this a competition? So you're basically saying if I don't give you a ring, you're not going to love me as much."

Newton offered an alternative viewpoint, stating, "You can have a ring with no love and love with no ring."

Recent Fatherhood and Controversial Comments

This isn't the first time Newton has sparked discussion with his views on relationships and family. Back in October, he welcomed his most recent child with girlfriend Jasmin Brown, bringing his total to nine children across three different mothers.

Last month, on the 'It's Giving' podcast, Newton made another controversial statement regarding women and relationships. He claimed that "a woman's value gets lowered when they have multiple children by multiple men."

"I just think that the reality of that answer is that women's value gets lowered the more children that they have," Newton said during the podcast appearance.

Complex Family Dynamics

Newton provided context for his perspective, explaining, "I was having this conversation with one of the mothers of my children and she's still fine. Like, I was telling her, 'The guy that you're dating or will date, if he ain't willing to love on these five children that you have, he ain't the guy for you.'"

Despite his unconventional views on marriage, Newton expressed deep appreciation for the mothers of his children. The ex-MVP maintained that he'll "forever be indebted" to them "no matter how they make me feel." He compared those ongoing relationships to "one of those family business type of situations," suggesting a practical, cooperative approach to co-parenting outside traditional marital structures.

Newton's comments continue to generate discussion about modern relationship norms, commitment outside marriage, and evolving family structures in contemporary society.
