This Morning Viewers Express Confusion Over Blue's Frequent Appearances
Baffled This Morning fans took to social media platforms to voice their complaints as the iconic boyband Blue made another appearance on the popular ITV daytime show. The group appeared on Wednesday, April 15th, to promote their 25th anniversary music and discuss their ongoing tour across the United Kingdom.
Social Media Backlash and Confusion
Viewers at home were left perplexed seeing the band on screen once again, with many noting that Blue seemed to be making frequent appearances on the This Morning sofa in recent months. The boyband had previously appeared on the series back in September 2023, where they discussed their upcoming music and collaboration with Robbie Williams.
One viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: 'Feels like Blue were on the TM sofa quite recently?' Another chimed in alongside a meme shouting the word 'no': 'Blue again?'
A third social media user added: 'Here's Blue and what seems like their 25th appearance,' while a fourth penned: 'Never was there a more annoying comeback as Blue.' Someone else hit out against the band with: 'Blue celebrate that it has been 25 years since they were a successful boyband.'
Band Members and Career Highlights
Blue, consisting of members Lee Ryan, Duncan James, Simon Webbe, and Anthony Costa, first rose to fame following the release of their 2001 debut single All Rise. During their latest This Morning appearance, the pop legends joined hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley to discuss what fans can expect from their current tour and the music they would perform, including their latest single written by Robbie Williams.
Despite the criticism, some viewers expressed admiration for the band's appearance. One fan wrote: 'My boys are aging like fine wine,' while another said: 'These guys have aged really well. They look great!!!'
Blue's Musical Journey and Comeback
The group, formed in 2000, released three studio albums before announcing a hiatus in 2004. They reformed in January 2011 and represented the United Kingdom at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf with the song I Can, finishing in 11th place with 100 points.
In September 2023, Blue announced their comeback through Instagram, revealing they would release their new album Reflections in January 2025 before embarking on a 25th Anniversary Tour in April and May 2026. The group premiered their new single One Last Time on Radio 2 with Scott Mills.
Duncan James explained the inspiration behind their latest single: 'One Last Time is a song I wrote last year after the death of a really good friend of mine. It hit me hard and I wrote this in the aftermath of it all. But I didn't want it to sound like a sad song, so we came up with this, which is a different kind of sound for Blue - it has a rockier feel but still retains all the classic elements of a Blue song.'
Career Challenges and Successes
Blue faced professional challenges when they were dropped by their record label Sony in 2015 due to the poor performance of their fifth album Colours. However, they returned with singles Haven't Found You Yet and Dance with Me in 2022, both from their sixth studio album Heart & Soul, which was released on October 28, 2022.
Throughout their career, Blue have sold approximately 15 million records worldwide and have been certified for 3.6 million albums and 2.6 million singles in the UK alone. The group joined The Big Reunion in 2013 alongside other defunct groups including Liberty X, Atomic Kitten, and 5ive for a one-off gig.
Celebrity Encounters and Anecdotes
In interviews ahead of their return, band members shared memorable celebrity encounters from their heyday. Duncan James recalled a remarkable experience with Mariah Carey during a first-class flight from Los Angeles to London.
'I was sitting in first class on a flight from LA to London and Mariah Carey was opposite me,' Duncan remembered. 'During the flight, her assistant came up to me and said: 'Mariah would like to have a drink with you at the bar.' I was like, 'Holy f***'... I ended up doing shots of vodka with her while she was singing in my ear. I thought, 'I've made it'. That was the best moment in my whole career.'
Simon Webbe recalled their 2002 collaboration with Elton John, in which they covered his iconic song Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word. 'One minute I was signing on, then you're getting nods from legends like Elton John,' Simon said. 'We got a tour of his place and he told us All Rise was the best album of that year.'
Duncan added details about visiting Elton John's home: 'We went into his walk-in wardrobe and we saw his glasses - rails and rails of them. I was like, 'F***ing hell this is brilliant, we're having a right old nose around Elton's house'.'
This Morning continues to air weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX, featuring various celebrity guests and entertainment segments throughout its programming schedule.
