Reality Star Blake Putman Recalls Fatal Crash That Killed Parents and Wife
Blake Putman, the 37-year-old television personality known for the TLC reality series Meet The Putmans, has bravely recounted the devastating car crash that tragically killed both of his parents and his wife six months ago in September 2025. In an emotional interview with People magazine, Putman candidly shared how he vividly remembers the entire incident, describing the harrowing moments that changed his family forever.
The Fateful Journey Home
The family had been driving back to their Michigan home in three separate vehicles after cheering on Putman's 15-year-old son, Noah, at a football match. Putman was behind the wheel of one car carrying eight people, including his mother Barb, father Bill, and wife Megan. Just one mile from their house, a semi-truck driven by Pavel B. Shchukin ran a stop sign and collided with Putman's vehicle.
"He hit my door, and how God allowed me to be where I am today, I'm not really sure," Putman told the outlet. He added, "I remember the entire thing: I remember the car hitting us. I remember being on the road. I remember a lot of scenes inside the vehicle."
Immediate Aftermath and Loss
Putman's parents and wife were declared dead at the scene, with autopsies confirming they died instantly. "My mom and dad and Megan, they died on the scene. The autopsy said that they were immediately gone. There was no saving them," he said. Reflecting on his wife, Putman shared, "Megan is my soulmate. I remember telling her that I know that heaven exists, and she kind of looked at me like, 'Okay, why are you telling me this?' We were holding each other in bed, and I told her, 'Because I can't love someone as much as I love you, and this be it.'"
In addition to the fatalities, several family members sustained serious injuries:
- Putman suffered broken bones, including in his neck, and lacerations.
- His son Noah and niece Gia, the daughter of his brother Brandon, both sustained traumatic brain injuries.
- Daughters Lulu, 13, and Alena, 11, also suffered injuries in the crash.
Recovery and Resilience
Brandon Putman, who was in a separate vehicle during the accident, provided positive updates on the recovery of Noah and Gia. "The way he's bounced back and is stronger in almost every facet than he was before in a short amount of time is amazing. Gia, the same thing," he said. Gia, who was airlifted to the hospital for emergency surgery and has undergone 10 brain surgeries, is making continuous improvements, recently saying the word "mom."
"It's like a newborn baby," Brandon expressed, noting that she attends a rehab center daily and enjoys doing math at home. "We can't stop her... she goes to bed doing math. We have to literally tell her so she will go to bed!" The family has described her speed of recovery as nothing short of a miracle.
Noah has since returned to school and is looking forward to resuming sports like football. The Putman family has come together to offer care and support, with members taking turns reading the Bible to Gia and singing. "The compassion and the selflessness is amazing," Brandon added.
Legal Proceedings and Forgiveness
Pavel B. Shchukin, the driver of the semi-truck, pleaded no contest to three counts of a moving violation causing death, a misdemeanor, in December last year. He was sentenced to one year in jail and ordered to pay fines totaling $1,425. At the sentencing, Putman and his brothers Billy and Brandon forgave Shchukin and gave him a Bible.
Family Tributes and Ongoing Support
Last September, the family announced the deaths on their Instagram account, stating, "Our family was in a tragic car accident and we lost Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan. They have gone home to the Lord." The message requested prayers for healing and strength, adding, "Even in this time of heartbreak, we rest in knowing that God is in control."
In January, the family celebrated what would have been Bill and Barb's 43rd wedding anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram post. They continue to share updates on Gia's recovery, expressing gratitude for the love and support received from the community.
Meet The Putmans aired for one season on TLC in 2017, documenting the lives of Bill and Barb, their four children, spouses, and 15 grandchildren living together under one roof.
