Earlier that day, Taylor-Joy appeared on the Today show with host Craig Melvin to discuss her forthcoming projects. The interview began with Melvin noting that the actress often appears "trapped" in her roles, referencing her performances in The Queen's Gambit, the Mario franchise, and other projects.
After a brief laugh, Taylor-Joy responded, "So, I have a history of being trapped?" When Melvin asked if this was coincidence or a deliberate theme she seeks out, she replied, "It does feel like fate. I think now, with some hindsight, I do see a through-line between my own personal journey and what I've been allowed to depict on screen, but they always seem very different to me."

The conversation turned to rumors that Taylor-Joy might portray legendary singer Joni Mitchell in an upcoming biopic. Melvin asked about a possible connection between Mitchell and her role as Princess Peach in the Super Mario films.
"What is the connection between Joni Mitchell and Princess Peach?" Taylor-Joy initially questioned before answering, "That they're both singular. You can't touch them. They're in a league of their own."
