Actress Anna Friel is planning a joint birthday party to celebrate her 50th and her daughter Gracie's 21st, just days apart. Friel, known for her role in 'Marcella', shared the news at the RTS TV Awards, where she was nominated for her part in the BBC drama 'Unforgivable'.
The joint celebration comes as Friel embraces ageing, having previously stated 'you're only as old as you feel'. Her daughter Gracie, who she shares with ex-partner David Thewlis, is a budding singer-songwriter and will be finishing university in May.
Friel won the award for best supporting actress at the RTS TV Awards for her role in 'Unforgivable', a 90-minute drama written by Jimmy McGovern. The show, which also saw co-star Bobby Schofield win best male leading actor, deals with the aftermath of a brother's release from prison for abusing his nephew.
Describing the drama as 'a tough watch', Friel praised McGovern as 'one of my very favourite writers'. She noted that the show explores difficult topics from multiple perspectives, making it challenging for audiences.
Friel, who has been playing many mother roles recently, expressed pride in her daughter's musical talent. Gracie has been playing guitar since age seven and now performs live, while also completing her dissertation. Friel said she is 'a proud mummy' watching her daughter's independent success.
