Olivia Bowen, the celebrated Love Island star, has candidly shared the harrowing details of her second child's birth, describing it as a 'very scary close call' that profoundly impacted her mental health and family planning decisions. This traumatic experience ultimately led her husband, fellow Love Islander Alex Bowen, to undergo a vasectomy, cementing their choice not to have more children.
The Birth That Changed Everything
Olivia gave birth to her daughter, Siena, in August 2025, but the joyous occasion was marred by severe complications. In an emotional interview with Fabulous magazine, she disclosed that she suffered a significant haemorrhage during delivery, which she characterised as a 'close call' that left both her and Alex deeply shaken. 'It was very scary for both of us,' Olivia recounted, emphasising how the ordeal has since made her 'a bit more anxious as a mum.'
Parenting Anxiety and Family Decisions
The birth trauma has altered Olivia's approach to parenting, contrasting sharply with her more laid-back demeanor when raising their first child, son Abel. She admitted to becoming hyper-vigilant, even Googling minor symptoms like 'a snotty nose or a bit of a cough' out of nervousness. This anxiety, combined with the earlier loss of Siena's twin during pregnancy—a miscarriage at eight weeks—solidified the couple's resolve against expanding their family further. 'I felt I couldn't do that again,' Olivia explained, referring to the emotional toll of the miscarriage and birth complications.
To ensure no more pregnancies, Alex opted for a vasectomy, a decision Olivia described as 'bittersweet.' She expressed sadness over never breastfeeding again, noting she didn't want to stop too soon with Siena because 'it feels sad that I will never do it again.' This sentiment underscores the complex emotions surrounding their choice, balancing relief with a sense of finality.
Relocating for a Better Lifestyle
In addition to the vasectomy, Olivia and Alex have made another major life change: moving their family from the UK to Alicante, Spain. Olivia cited fears about raising children in the UK, stating it 'feels scary' and 'heavy to be a parent' there. The couple believes the Spanish lifestyle, with its emphasis on outdoor activities, better suits their family's needs, especially for Abel, who enjoys being outside.
Educational Adjustments and Future Plans
With Abel due to start school in September, the Bowens are considering deferring his enrollment until January to help him acclimate to Spain. They are also exploring schools in Marbella, indicating a long-term commitment to their new home. This move holds personal significance, as Olivia and Alex first met in Spain during the 2016 series of Love Island, where they spent weeks in a Mallorca villa and later became the show's longest-lasting couple.
Olivia's openness about these challenges highlights the often-unseen struggles of celebrity parents, blending personal health crises with practical family decisions. Her story serves as a reminder of the resilience required in parenting, even in the glamorous world of reality TV.
