Alan Carr Sets Record Straight on Amanda Holden Friendship
Comedian and television presenter Alan Carr has openly addressed persistent fan speculation regarding the authenticity of his on-screen chemistry with co-star Amanda Holden. The duo, who front a popular BBC travel series exploring properties across Greece, Italy, and Spain, have consistently showcased a blend of hard work, laughter, and deep conversations, including poignant discussions about Holden's personal experiences, such as the loss of her stillborn son Theo.
Genuine Camaraderie Debunks Doubts
During a recent appearance on Bob Mortimer's podcast, Life Is A Beach, Carr elaborated on the natural dynamic he shares with Holden. He emphasized that their presenting style eschews traditional formats in favour of authentic, unscripted interactions, which resonate deeply with audiences. "Yes, that's true - it's the chemistry people want, and you can't fake that," Carr asserted, highlighting the organic rapport that has become a hallmark of their series.
Carr revealed that he is frequently questioned about whether he genuinely likes Holden, despite their evident camaraderie on television. In response, he offered a humorous yet pointed rebuttal: "I mean, people go, 'Do you really like Amanda?' I couldn't be in 40-degree heat in Greece knocking down a partition wall with someone I hate. Why would I sign up for that? You have to actually like the person, genuinely like them, and that's what you see on screen."
History of Addressing Fan Queries
This is not the first instance where Carr has felt compelled to clarify the nature of his friendship with Holden. In a previous episode of their show, Holden expressed surprise that viewers had ever doubted their chemistry. Carr joked about common viewer comments regarding Holden's distinctive laugh, with Holden quipping in mock outrage, "This is an outrage!"
To dispel any lingering uncertainties, Carr added unequivocally, "No, no, no. We couldn't do this job if we didn't like each other - it would be hell." Holden echoed this sentiment, stating, "There's not a single other person I could do it with." Carr reciprocated with, "No, it would have to be you," underscoring their mutual respect and affection.
Strictly Come Dancing Snub Clarified
Despite their successful collaboration on the BBC property series, the pair have recently dismissed rumours about potentially presenting Strictly Come Dancing together. Speculation had suggested they might replace current hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, but Holden confirmed on her Heart Radio Breakfast Show with Jamie Theakston, "I want to say now that me and Alan are 100 per cent not doing Strictly. We're so flattered to be in that mix, but we both are not doing it."
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Holden, who also serves as a judge on Britain's Got Talent, explained that her busy schedule, balancing family life and career commitments, precludes such a role. "You see, I am already part of a big show, and I'll happily carry on watching Strictly from the comfort of my lounge, but it takes up too many weekends, I've got to remember that I have children and a husband," she revealed.
Holden expressed hope that the show would continue to feature two female presenters, suggesting potential candidates like The One Show's Alex Jones, BBC Radio star Zoe Ball, and comedians Katherine Ryan and Daisy May Cooper. She emphasized the need for "somebody super funny, and somebody that you wouldn't expect," highlighting her support for diverse and engaging hosting talents.
